Parallel to Serial Camera Converter...
A converter to connect your parallel controlled camera to a computer serial port or a serial to USB converter.
This converter is suitable for use with Astronomiser parallel controlled cameras, parallel controlled 'SC' modified webcams and ATiK cameras. To use the camera in normal mode for lunar, planetary or solar imaging, simply disconnect the parallel connector from the converter.
In K3CCD tools, you will need to select the correct COM port. Whether it is a built in COM port or a 'Virtual' COM Port, you can identify the com port used by following these steps with Windows XP:
- Click 'Start' and select 'Control Panel'
- If the view in Control Panel is 'Category View' select 'Performance and Maintenance' then 'System'
- If the view in Control Panel is 'Classic View' simply select 'System'
- Click on the 'Hardware' Index Tab and then click the 'Device Manager'
- Under 'Ports (COM & LPT) your computers ports are listed
Virtual COM ports normally have a port number higher than COM3
In K3CCD Tools, under 'Options', click 'Settings' then the 'Camera' tab - set the correct port number then close K3CCD and re-open it. It should now work with the camera.
If you have an ATiK camera, you can download the K3CCD software update available on the ATiK Instruments website, otherwise, to use this serial converter with K3CCD tools, you will need to purchase the full version of K3CCD Tools 3 ($49) from the K3CCD registrations page. You should do this after downloading the trial version. Although Serial to USB support is now widespread I would recommend that you check with your software supplier before purchasing an adapter.
