Fitted with low noise, broad spectrum sensors and using a true 'RAW' format as well as having the ability to couple the camera simply to a telescope and run exposure times limited only by your set-up's ability to track, Canon cameras are now well supported with accessories and software making them the ideal choice for astrophotographers with a wide range of interests in photographing the night sky. From stunning moonscapes to deeply detailed wide fields, Canon cameras have become the leading name in astroimaging using dSLRs.
Out of the box, a Canon EOS dSLR has two filters in front of the sensor, the front of which is coupled to a piezo vibrator for shaking fine dust particles off of the filter surface. This filter effectively blocks UV and IR. The rear filter corrects the white balance for daytime photography cutting the camera's red response by around 75%. When the camera is modified for astronomy, this second filter is removed or replaced. When the filter is removed, the autofocus is no longer as accurate as before the mod so if you wish to use the camera for normal photography as well as astronomy, you should select one of the 'filter replaced' options.
If you also want to use your camera for IR photography, both filters can be removed at the same cost as having the rear filter removed only. If you would like us to do this, please contact us at the time of order.
